*Sweater Club #20 August/October 2023

Join our Sweater Club #20 Hot Summer now! Our knitalongs meet-up in person and give everyone the encouragement to knit a sweater. We're here to help you along the way.

How this works

1) You choose which of the designs you want to make from our pre-selected list.

We consider knitting trends, techniques used, designer creativity, pattern reliability, and size inclusivity (bust 30" to at least 60") when selecting the designs for Sweater Club. So, the designs we pre-select are sure to please a wide range of knitters.

2) Sign-up here (select the design option) or in the shop. There is no cost to join.

3) Purchase your yarn at our shop.

4) Purchase your pattern on Ravelry or through our shop.

5) Join our weekly meet-ups for the community and knitting help along the way.

Meet-ups: Sundays 11am-12noon; beginning August 13 and continuing each week 8/20, 8/27, 9/3, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24 and 10/1.  Meet-ups are optional so come when you can.

The Designs

For Sweater Club #20 we kept in mind that warm/hot weather will continue through September if not longer! With warmer days and cool evenings we decided this Sweater Club should include sweaters that feature short sleeves and a bit of lace work - easy enough for first time lace knitters. You can definitely finish a sweater/top in 6-8 weeks.

Salty Air Tee : The Salty Air Tee was designed with easy breezy summer moments in mind. Simple construction, a delicate lace yoke and a style that’s easily modified to wear just the way you like it. When knit to a cropped length, Salty Air pairs beautifully with skirts, dresses and high waisted pants. Or you can add some length to the body and style it with shorts, jeans or just about anything! The Salty Air Tee is knit seamlessly from the top down. The neckline is cast on and short rows are worked to raise the back of the neck for a comfortable fit. The yoke lace is knit, then the body and sleeves are separated and worked from the top down. This is just enough lace to be engaging but not difficult.

Dunedrifter : Dunedrifter features a unique, side-to-side construction, starting with the right sleeve, knitted in the round. The pattern then switches to a flat knit, adding extra stitches for the back, seamlessly incorporating a stunning and crisp lace motif. This approach continues onto the front, combining stockinette and lace for a beautifully shaped neckline. The front and back are then joined using a three-needle bind off, followed by the completion of the left sleeve in the round. This unique construction method lets you craft a beautiful lace pattern that stretches across the bottom of the top, adding a fun and eye-catching detail to your summer knit.

For Dunedrifter, they’ve ensured that versatility goes beyond just styling. This pattern is suited for advanced beginners, offering an engaging project that combines lacework and easy shaping techniques in a fresh, unique construction. When you purchase your patten the pattern includes both written and charted instructions along with video tutorials.

Yarn Suggestions for Salty Air and Dunedrifter:  Both patterns suggest 24 stitches over 4" on a fingering weight yarn. We have numerous fingering weight yarns that will work. Note that fingering weight at this gauge means a more open fabric. We also suggest sport or light dk weight yarns for ease.   Lana Grossa Diversa (cotton/viscose) is our favorite pick for both designs. It's a light dk (knits like a sport or fingering) and for most sizes you'll only need 4-balls. Other picks are Berroco Pima Soft, Moonshine Fine, Manos del Uruguay Fino and Alegria also Koigu KPPPM in our new 100 gram skeins.

For the Crocheters:

BruleeBrulee features central granny square motif panels edged by double crochet. This flattering design is an easy project as your first crochet garment. Suitable for confident beginners but also fun for more experienced crocheters.

This top will look great during these hot months layered over a camisole or year round over a dress or buttoned shirt.

Skills include double crochet, following a assembly diagram and join-as-you-go granny squares assembly.

Brulee Yarn Suggestions: Our top pick is Berroco Isola. We also suggest Vivo, Pima Soft, Mojave, and Manos del Uruguay Milo

For everyone:
